Feedback on Ideas / Concepts
It was suggested that the process of creative thinking and the design process is not a one size fits all approach and is very much dependent on the project and needs to be relevant to this. An introduction to research methods in Graphic Design was said to be a good reference for looking into the design process. It was said that the design process is not linear or predefined with different people having different approaches so this should also be considered when creating a creative tool. Within the design process it was said that parts are cyclical so this could perhaps be looked into further. It was suggested that perhaps the card idea could be based on different models in which people then customise to fit to their own process or put their own process into the model. It was said that testing some existing creativity tools, or the concepts that have been produced, on a brief to see what happens could help. Considering how the cards / tool relates back to the brief is important otherwise there is the danger of creating things purely for aesthetic purposes. Try evaluating their effectiveness in terms of the brief by referring back to them.
It was said that the idea of having a full body of research would help with a project. It was suggested that breaking the design up into chapters could be quite effective and having sections which make you think outside the box and flip the design on its head. Perhaps having a diary format would make the design more relevant to designers rather than the illustrative approach which is used in other creativity books.
