OUGD601 - Practical - LED Lightbulb Packaging - Layout Development of Initial Idea 4

Layout Development

Focus on energy efficiency - Radiating green energy

- The energy efficiency colours could be put into dots, with sequences of them showing the progression through the energy efficient ratings.
- Scattering them more loosely creates more of a general feel of being environmentally friendly through colour however is perhaps less obvious that they are part of a scale of efficiency compared to when they are in a line.
- The dots could radiate in lines from the top of the lightbulb creating a bright and colourful design that has impact, with the use of colour creating a positive feel to the design.
- Cut outs could be used on the bottom half of the box to allow the consumer to see the fitting of the bulb which is what people look for when buying a light bulb. The radiating design could then expand from the outline of the top half of the bulb.
- Radiating circles from the side of the box would allow other information to be placed alongside the design whilst still having impact through the use of shape and colour. Key information could be highlighted in circles.
- A single line of dots from the bottom of the light bulb could reflect the idea of the bulb using less energy and therefore being greener

- The energy efficiency colours could be used in blocks of circles, however the use of the circles is perhaps more playful and fun when compared with the strips of colour.
- The light bulb image would perhaps need to be placed on a lighter background to allow it to stand out on the packaging.

- The combination of the colours in strips further emphasises the gradual change from one colour to the next. Swapping the colours round so that it goes from yellow to green would further create the idea of the colours increasing to green.

- The use of the radiating circles with the bulb inside makes the bulb stand out and draws the eye to the image.

- To focus on the energy efficiency key words and phrases were highlighted on the front to emphasise the point. The use of a circle to pick out '90% energy saver' outlines this as the key characteristic of the light bulb and its efficiency. Using three keywords as seen in Philips packaging and Ecovers washing powder highlights the key benefits of the light bulb on the front of the package making it clear for the consumer. The efficiency of the product has a key influence on the consumer benefit of it saving money and the environmental benefit of it reducing emissions. The link between these three things are highlighted in the words, green, economical, efficiency.

- Using the grey from the branding helps tie the design and logotype together creating an element of consistency across the design.
- Green circles are used to highlight key information regarding the products energy efficiency.
