OUGD501 - Definitions Research

Definitions

A list of words to do with the themes and aims of the workbook was compiled. Finding out the definitions of these words would help with generating ideas to represent these concepts. 

Define Insight:

- the capacity to gain an accurate and deep understanding of someone or something 
- an accurate and deep understanding
- an instance of apprehending the true nature of a thing, especially through intuitive understanding
- penetrating mental vision or discernment; faculty of seeing into inner character or underlying truth
- an understanding of relationships that sheds light on or helps solve a problem 
- if you gain insight or an insight into a complex situation or problem, you gain an accurate and deep understanding of it
- if someone has insight, they are able to understand complex situations

Define Creative:

- relating to or involving the use of the imagination or original ideas to create something 
- having good imagination or ideas
- a person whose job involves creative work 
- resulting from orginality of thought, expression etc imaginative
- originative, productive
- having the quality or power of creating 


Define Inspiration:

an inspiring or animating action or influence
something inspired, as an idea.
a result of inspired activity.
the act of inspiring; quality or state of being inspired.
the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.
a sudden brilliant or timely idea.


Define Document:

a piece of written, printed, or electronic matter that provides information or evidence or that serves as an official record.
record (something) in written, photographic, or other form.
support or accompany with documentation.

late Middle English: from Old French, from Latin documentum ‘lesson, proof’ (in medieval Latin ‘written instruction, official paper’), from docere ‘teach’.


Define Discovery:

the action or process of discovering or being discovered.
a person or thing discovered.
- if someone makes a discovery, they become aware of something that they did not know about before
- the act of revealing, disclosure


Define Research:

the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.
engaged in or intended for research.
investigate systematically.
discover or verify information for use in (a book, programme, etc.).


Define Collect:

bring or gather together (a number of things).
come together and form a group.
systematically seek and acquire (items of a particular kind) as a hobby.
call for and take away; fetch.
concentrate (one's thoughts).

Middle English: from Old French collecte, from Latin collecta ‘gathering’, feminine past participle of colligere ‘gather together’ (see collect).
