OUGD501 - Study Task 6 - Initial Digital Designs

Initial Digital Layout Designs

- Placing the exercise name in a box highlights the information whilst allowing the type to only take up a small amount of the page allowing more room for documentation.
- Placing elements in this way throughout the book creates a worksheet format appropriate for the workbook / sketchbook idea

- Toning down the black to grey makes the text stand out less allowing what ever content that is added to be the focus of the design

- Having the exercise on one pages and a documentation page opposite provides a link between the content and starting point.

- Designing the double page spread as if it was one isn't practical as elements will be cut off when bound, also using the space all the way across wouldn't be practical for some of the pages e.g. the written ones. Instead using a double page spread still for an exercise but treating them as two pages would allow the space to be used functionally and make the design stronger.

Moving forward:
- Rather than having the exercises on the same page it was considered it would be more effective to have these at the beginning of the book then the documentation pages after. This will allow the user to choose which pages they want to use in order to respond to the exercise.
- With this in mind it was considered that it wouldn't be known which exercise will be matched with which pages because this would be the choice of the user. Instead it was considered that 'exercise' and 'topic' could be printed but then space would be left for the user to write the name of the exercise they are completing. This would mean the illustrative text would not be necessary anymore as the user will be filling it with their own handwriting which still reflects the concept of workbook / sketchbook.
