How to be an explorer of the world by Keri Smith
How to be an Explorer of the World by Keri Smith aims to get teenagers to look at the world around them in more detail through a series of activities. The activities get the audience to engage with the world and they act like a research / discovery tool with each page having a new activity.
The design is still illustrative in style in a similar way to her other books creating a rough and ready, sketchbook style. Her other books act as books to be used like sketchbooks whereas this design acts only as prompts for discovery.
Separating imagery from text allows the illustrative style to work with the imagery, other wise it would be quite busy if overlapped.
The design uses a limited colour palette mixing orange, white, black and monochrome imagery. The design is aimed at a slightly older target audience than her other books e.g. Wreck this Journal and the book contains more focused activities rather than trying to aide creativity as a whole.
