Areas of interest for developing tools
Needs to be applicable to an aspect of design practice / process more speciffically help with idea generation in some way.
Mindmapping
- having a physical predetermined tool means people avoid being neat
- the tool would not be permanent, would be movable / adaptable creating greater flexibility
- make it multifunctional encouraging the use of different ways of thinking e.g. compare and contrast , best / worse etc
- would be suitable for different projects
- the physical nature of the tools would allow for group and individaul mindmapping
- symbols could draw attention to different areas
Random Input
- use probing question to make people think about things differently
- use the format of cards?
- allows for the addition of unexpected elements
- symbols could be used and interpreted in different ways
- would be used in brianstorming as a way of generating ideas together or individually
- could combine different random input techniques into one tool with the idea being that they change between the different types of brainstorming techniques e.g.reverse storming , teleporting storming. Questions for each of these types of brainstorming would help prompt ideas. This could be done alone , then in pairs, then in groups as this provides the best results when brainstorming.
Inspiration/ Research
- breaking apart the brief into questions , phrases , keywords and aims is important
- allows for the immersion within the information as a way of providing inspiration and helping with idea generation
- would allow for the documentation of discoveries through research in a workbook format
- allows users to study information
- includes research into trends , technology, designers, and the topic
