Initial Layout Sketches for Workbook
Things that were considered:
- Having the exercise title and topic in the same place onn every pages will create a standard format for all pages. Keeping these quite small in a similar way to a diary will allow lots of room for the user to add information, sketches etc.
- It was considered that each exercise could be on a double page spread and the user would respond to this on the opposite page creating clear links between the question and answer
- Having the questions so the are like water marks on the pages would allow the user to write over the top of them making the most out of the page.
- It was considered that having different types of pages will allow for the collection of different information, these would be write, define and collect. Collect would mean sticking information or images into the book. Write would allow for extended information and notes to be written. Define would allow for keywords , phrases and prioritising to be achieved.
- The different types of page would have either lines, bullet points or squares.
- Pairing the questions with a page design will suggest how to respond to the statement / question whilst still giving the user freedom.
- It was considered that the pages could be a mixture of lanscape and portrait designs to make the most of the format of the book and provide lots of space for the user to document
- The book could be split into different categories to further structure the documentation and collection of information.
- Keeping the cover quite plain will make it look like a workbook. Having a section where the project name can be written and the number of the book will help users keep track of which bokk is for which project.
